Seeking Refuge by animalartist16 Seeking Refuge by animalartist16
Headshot commission for :iconluxurycat: of their character, Rhyno. He's a mix of elf, raptor, and shark. I played a bit more to the shark side since he goes in the water a lot (which I read is one place he feels at peace, since he isn't hunted there). Hence the title.

Really tried improving with the inside of mouth/teeth and feather detail here. I've also never tried to attempt shark skin texture before, so it was interesting (and a bit time consuming) to work on. xD
But it was fun, and overall I like how it came out. <3

Definitely appreciating those feathers <3 and the skin works well, can definitely see shark there haha, but I like it overall.
Is he under the water here? Cause I feel like it isn't really, but I can't put my finger on why, I mean there's the light that would be coming down from the surface, hmm. Perhaps it's the position of the feathers since the water would pull or push them in some direction with movement, unless he'd been stationary for a while lol. I don't know, ignore me and my ponderings xD

Thank you so much <3 The feathers I think were the most time consuming xD
And he is, and I get what you mean. It was bothering me too. I think I should have added more light blues in there or something. I did try to get some movement with the smaller feathers, but I imagined the larger feathers would be more sturdy and not move around as much underwater (like how large feathers stay straight in mid-air at times). We can just say he's been sitting there for a little while to make them more stationary though

I bet!
Hmm, personally I think though the feathers would be very sturdy, the vane ends would curl slightly or something since they are far away from the shaft? (Not that I would be able to figure out how to make that visible here anyway XD ) Idk, and I haven't observed the feathers in air thing so, could be wrong :)
Yeah, maybe making the surface texture a little more defined? Or, I don't know, some faint rock or reef outlines ( though he doesn't seem near enough the floor for that... Maybe some super tall seaweed? XD ) below.
Whatever the case, I guess it was a good learning experience :)
Good solve ;)
